“Babe, why are you dressed like Elvis?”

It was a fair question for a Wednesday morning in July.

“You know, I think I get it. You put on this sequinned jumpsuit and you instantly feel cool. I see why Elvis was a fan.”

Amy stared at me over the coffee cup pressed to her lips. Her bountiful head of curly black hair fell messily about her shoulders and her dark brown eyes yawned at me as she drank. Beneath the long, black t-shirt she’d borrowed from me sat her beloved octopus tattoo, wrapping around her left thigh in brilliant shades of purple and blue. Amy was a little bit goth, a little bit rock-a-billy, and a lot of brains packed into a slender 5'7" frame.

We’d been dating off and on for four years and she’d witnessed me doing some odd things, but dressing up like Elvis to go to work was something new. Still, she wasn’t fazed by my costume.

“Sure, babe. Sequinned jumpers are cool, I guess, but the question is why? Also, where did you get that thing?”

I looked down at the white jumpsuit, at the red and gold sequins decorating the generous neckline that dropped to my belly and brushed away a smudge of dark something on my leg.
