Seven Readers’ Comments I Want on My Tombstone

A friend and I play a little game. We’ll read a sentence or overhear a phrase in a conversation and decide whether it would make for an appropriate tombstone sitting atop one of our graves. It can be something amusing, something absurd, something risqué — but never under any circumstance can it be serious, or gods forbid, profound. I want my final resting place ensconced in chuckles, not sobs.

Recently, my sister left a comment on the link I shared to my Crush on Cruella story: Witty but disturbing. I took a screenshot and sent it to my friend and she replied back immediately, “This should definitely be on your headstone.”

This got me thinking about other comments I’ve received on my stories — strangers offering flattering, droll, or disapproving commentary.

In no particular order, here are seven readers’ comments I’m happy to be dead under.

Died Laughing

Jan was kind enough to leave this comment a year ago on my story I Ate Vegans for 60 Days. As a writer who was trying to make someone laugh, having someone tell me I made them laugh makes me happy.
