This is interesting. I am toying with the idea of replacing the iPad I've had since 2012, I think. I bought the Mac Air I am typing no right now four years ago, I believe. I do little more than write, edit, and use some apps such as Excel. I do some photo editing using Canon software but this is mostly a writing and comms device for me.
I had thought of upgrading this Mac and giving it to my wife who is currently using my old Mac air and complains about it constantly. However, maybe it makes more sense, and better budgeting, to get new iPad instead. I have a bluetooth keyboard I use on my old iPad, but it has slowed to molasses speed. I like bringing my iPad with me because it is a little more portable and has a slightly better battery, but you say this may not be the case now.
Any thoughts, Tony? Just curious.
